Urban Outfitters
1996
Slant is the "zine" published by the Urban Outfitters retail chain. This one's a giant newspaper with a three-color cover by Laurent Cilluffo and some really great comics and art by Chris Ware (Jimmy Corrigan), Archer Prewitt (Sof' Boy), Bill Wray (Hellboy Jr), Fiona Smyth (Drawn and Quarterly), Takeshi Tadatsu (Tokyo New York), Triangle-Slash (Rapture), LoBrow / Erik T. Johnson, Greg Ruth, Suzy Hutchinson, John Skewes, Art Chantry (Some People Can't Surf), Bugs and Drugs and others.
Also in the issue are articles written by Kenneth Anger (Hollywood Babylon), Jerry Stahl (Permanent Midnight), Al Hoff (Thrift Score zine), John Marr (Murder Can Be Fun zines), Steve Mandich (Monorail), Rex Doane (WFMU's Lowest Common Denominator) and more.

"I found this odd adrag/zine at Ann Arbor's "Urban Outfitters." It's a newspaper sized give-away with throw-away writing but some nice little strips, including ones by Mark Marek, Kaz, Carel Moiseiwitsch, David Mazzucheli and Chris Ware. It also sports a cover by Gary Painter and a grat big collage by Winston Smith. It's *free,* so what the hell... go to an Urban Outfitter and pick one up."
