On display from Feb. 6 through April 29, will include works from Chris Ware, Enrique Chagoya, Jon E. Gierlich and S. Clay Wilson, George Herriman, and Red Grooms, among many others.
Chris Ware, one of the leading comic artists in the United States today, has written an essay for the gallery guide to the exhibition. In it, he explores comic art's and high art's place in America's culture.
Along with the Comic Art exhibition, the "Chris Ware" collection will be on display, which will include drawings and other materials related to his upcoming graphic novel based in Omaha. Ware's exhibition will open on Feb. 16 and continue through April 29.
To help promote the contemporary exhibitions, the Sheldon Art Gallery will host several public events and programs related to comic art. Audiences will have a chance to meet Chris Ware on Feb. 16 when the artist discusses his pieces with Sheldon's curator Daniel Siedell from 5-7 p.m. A reception will follow the presentation.
