December 6th, 2001 "Chris Ware has won the Guardian First Book Award for 2001 with Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth, the first time a graphic novel has won a major UK book award. Chicago-based Ware was presented with the award, worth £10,000, by Alan Rusbridger and Mark Lawson at a ceremony this evening."
